Weathered Window

I love to paint windows. Someone once said we like to paint (or collect) subjects that have symbolic meaning to us. Often I will paint country roads or paths. Their meaning is easy -- they can represent the start of a new adventure, unconventional choices (because the road is less traveled), or connecting with nature.

 

But what do windows symbolize? I wasn't sure so I asked my friend and pastelist, Susan Forbush. She responded without any hesitation, Insight! I like that answer. What do you think? What do windows symbolize to you?

I'm a great admirer of your work -- and with regard to your Weathered Window painting, were some parts of the painting done with brush and others with a palette knife? The resulting overall texture is very effective and its consistency contributes to the unity of the painting.

Will you be doing a workshop in the Jacksonville, FL area anytime soon?

Hi Anthony,

You're correct. The first layer of paint was put down with a brush. The second layer was applied with a palette knife. The thick paint gives a great texture.
No, I won't be teaching in Jacksonville. That atelier is no longer offering classes. Actually, I am cutting back on classes, too, so I can spend more time painting.
